LOWEST PRICE ANYWHERE - GUARANTEED!
We have balsa sticks that measure 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 36" each. They can be used for nose blocks, tail blocks, internal backing blocks or sawed into strips by the builder to laminate the surfboard rails. They can also be glued together to create sheets of balsa for decking. These sticks are strong and have very nice color. The actual weight varies from stick-to-stick but even the heaviest sticks are lighter than any other wood.
BUILD A WHOLE SURFBOARD FROM THESE STICKS? SURE - WHY NOT?
You can use any wood you like to build a surfboard but consider this, a surfboard made from hardwoods like oak, maple, or walnut will be beautiful - but very heavy. In the water it will have lots of "drive" but turning will be sluggish and carrying it very far will wear you out.
One answer is a solid balsa board - but even a balsa longboard can weigh over 40 lbs. We glued up a couple dozen of our balsa sticks and resawed them into planks to build a hollow 7' 2" Mini Mal. With a lightweight frame and 3/8" thick decking it came out at about 17 pounds.
We've also used these strips on one side of boards to compensate for heavier wood we used on the other side.
